Made from over 100,000 seized blades, the Knife Angel was created to highlight the negative effects of violent and knife crime in our society, whilst solidifying our critical need for social change.
We did it! The Connor Brown Trust brought the Knife Angel to Sunderland in May 2024. Anyone who saw this amazing piece of artwork, which was created by artist Alfie Bradley and the British Ironworks Centre, will know first hand how extremely powerful and emotive the sculpture is. We were thrilled to have been able to bring it to our city and we are confident that it made a phenominal impact on our community and young people.
Sunderland now joins neighbouring areas such as Gateshead, Middlesbrough and Redcar who have all been host to this magnificent sculpture. It took months of planning, seamingly endless meetings and a lot of hard work but, we are so glad we finally made it happen.
During May 2024, we invited young people from schools and colleges from across the region to attend our workshops, which thanks to Sunderland City Council, were held at the newly opened City Hall in Sunderland. After the workshops, the young people were invited to visit the Knife Angel, which stood in pride of place in Keel Square.
